The Republican National Convention could be in Milwaukee in 2024. A decision is expected this summer, as soon as this month. Although we don’t know whether the convention will be in Milwaukee or Nashville, people who work downtown are excited about the possibility.
“Really excited about it honestly. I know those types of conventions bring a lot of people down to the city that’s hosting it,” said Norberto Pliego, Taco Mike’s general manager.
In March, Milwaukee officials gave their final pitch to host the RNC. Visit Milwaukee led the pitch and the city’s overall bid. They highlighted Fiserv Forum and the Wisconsin Center along with the major security operation the Milwaukee Police Department would oversee.
“It’s going to be really cool if it does come down to Milwaukee and I think a lot of businesses here would benefit from it,” Pliego said.
“And not just that, our chances of winning other large conventions if we’re selected to, prove that we can handle them,” added Omar Shaikh, restauranteur. “A lot of the cities that won, they saw a ramp up of conventions over the next 10 years.”
Past RNC host cities include Charlotte, Cleveland and Tampa.
