The naked dress is officially here to stay. While the nearly-nude trend has popped up in various iterations over the years, over the past year it has seemingly had a chokehold on the style set and celebrities alike, and now it’s been given the Jennifer Lopez seal of approval.
While nearly-nude dresses began to make waves last year, it appears to already be 2023’s biggest trend, with Rita Ora, Jessica Chastain and now JLo already putting their own spin on the trend.
The Marry Me star took to the red carpet on Wednesday evening in a tan-coloured, see-through Valentino dress adorned with matching gold crystals.
The 53-year-old singer and actor was the star of the red carpet for her new Prime Video film, Shotgun Wedding, in the sparkling dress, which featured a beige strapless slip beneath, and a vibrant yellow bow at the waist.
She swept her brunette locks into a sleek low bun and accessorised with her signature oversized gold earrings.
Predictably, the large majority of her Instagram followers went wild for the look. “Nobody does it better!,” commented one fan.
“STU-NNING,” wrote another. “Love this dress. How intriguing to put the bow under the dress.” added a third.
Lopez isn’t the only one taking the naked dress trend for a spin this year.
Rita Ora opted for a see-through dress to the Netflix Golden Globe and Critics Choice Nominee Toast at the start of the month.

Ora only wore a pair of black underwear beneath her purple lace slip from Rodarte. The dress comes with a slip and retails for £2,294, but Ora decided to leave the slip at home.
The singer has a penchant for naked dresses, having worn a see-through dress by Nensi Dojaka to The Fashion Awards red carpet in December.
The trend has already been seen on red carpets this year, with celebrities at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards donning nude or see-through gowns.

Jessica Chastain wore a nude Oscar de la Renta gown to the Golden Globes, while The Menu’s Anya Taylor-Joy wore a nude and sheer Christian Dior gown to the Critics’ Choice Awards.
Lily James also rocked up to the Critics’ Choice Awards in a see-through Oscar de la Renta gown, her second fashion win of the year after style watchers named her the “best dressed” celebrity at the Golden Globes.
The naked dress can come in several variations. It can either be a gown that closely matches your skin tone, a see through dress with fabric carefully positioned to protect the wearer’s modesty, or it can be a dress made of completely sheer fabric.

The trend appeared to pick up pace after the 2022 Met Gala, to which Kim Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe’s famed naked dress that the actor wore in 1962 to serenade then-US president, John F Kennedy.
“In a sense, it’s the original naked dress,” Kardashian told Vogue after the Met Gala. “That’s why it was so shocking.”
Emily Ratajkowski and Lily James were two other celebrities that brought the naked dress to the Met Gala, both donning Versace for the occasion.
Perhaps the most talked-about naked dress moment of 2022 however was Florence Pugh, who wore a breast-baring Valentino dress to the fashion house’ couture show in Paris last year that saw both praise and backlash from her social media followers.
“If I’m happy in it, then I’m gonna wear it. Of course, I don’t want to offend people, but I think my point is: How can my nipples offend you that much?” Pugh later told Vogue.
With stars already donning the trend in 2023, it seems the naked dress isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
