A Smartphone With 200W Charging Could Be Coming This Year

An upcoming smartphone might launch with an insane 200W fast charging. The technology could juice up the phone’s battery in just a few minutes.

According to a report from a reliable tipster, Vivo’s upcoming iQOO 10 Pro might be the first phone to feature 200W fast charging. The report comes a few days after the same tipster claimed that Vivo was working on super-fast charging technology for its next flagship smartphone. The previous report also revealed that the system will support 20V/10A charging for a maximum power output of 200W. While the name of the smartphone wasn’t mentioned back then, the latest report has now added that missing piece of the puzzle as well.

iQOO is a Chinese smartphone brand launched by Vivo in 2019. It was initially launched in India as a performance-oriented brand specifically marketed at gamers. It has since expanded to China and other international markets while keeping the same focus. iQOO phones are generally powered by top-end chipsets from Qualcomm and MediaTek, and its current flagship, the iQOO 9 Pro, is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

In a new Weibo post on Monday, tipster Digital Chat Station claimed that the upcoming iQOO 10 Pro will support 200W charging capabilities. The tipster also reiterated their earlier assertions that wired charging on the phone is rated at 20V/10A, while wireless charging is rated at 20V/3.25A (65W). The post also revealed that the iQOO 10 Pro’s 200W charging adapter has the model number V200100L0B0-CN. If the rumor turns out to be accurate, the iQOO 10 Pro would offer a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the iQOO 9 Pro, which offered 120W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

iQOO 10 Pro Could Have Insane Charging Speeds

There are no other details in the Weibo post, including when the device might launch. However, the iQOO 9 Pro was released earlier this year, which suggests that the 10 Pro might launch in the next few months. The tipster also didn’t mention how long it might take for the phone’s battery to juice up fully at those insane charging speeds, but it might take a little longer than Xiaomi’s promised eight minutes, as iQOO devices typically sport large batteries.

It is worth noting that Xiaomi was the first smartphone brand to announce 200W charging tech last year, but a device with that technology is yet to make it to market. According to the company, its 200W ‘Hyper Charge’ technology is capable of charging a typical 4,000mAh smartphone battery in just eight minutes. Oppo also demoed its 240W SuperVOOC fast charging tech at MWC 2022 earlier this year. However, if the latest rumors are anything to go by, the first mass-produced device with 200W fast-charging might come from iQOO.
