The iPhone is one of the most popular smartphones in the world. Apple has been selling MacBooks like never before. And it looks like a lot of people have been using Apple’s default internet browser — Safari — on these devices. According to a report by AtlasVPN, more than a billion people now use Safari. The report suggests that “1,006,232,879 internet users (19.16% of all internet users) now use the Safari browser, making it the second browser with over a billion users.” Safari does work seamlessly if you are an inhabitant of the Apple ecosystem and offers a slew of privacy-oriented features.
How was the number of Safari users calculated?
AtlasVPN says that the statistics are based on the GlobalStats browser market share percentage, which was then converted into numbers using the Internet World Stats internet user metric to retrieve the exact numbers.
Google still rules the roost in the browser market
It comes as no surprise to see that Google Chrome is the most popular browser in the world with over 3.3 billion users. Google’s ecosystem of YouTube, Docs, Maps, and Drive all make Chrome the number one choice for a large number of users.
Microsoft Edge, as per the report is now the third most popular browser with over 212 million users. “Since the release of Windows 11, Microsoft set it as the default browser on all devices and made it difficult for users to change to their preferred option. Therefore, Edge received a significant increase in its userbase,” says the AtlasVPN report.
At number four is Mozilla Firefox with 179 million users. Firefox is popular with those who are concerned about their privacy as the browser’s private browsing mode includes security against tracking, malware, phishing, and pop-up blocking.
Samsung Internet is the fifth most popular browser with 149 million users whereas the Opera browser is used by 108 million users.
