Picnic and eradication work day for Virginia Key Beach Park volunteers happening on Saturday

All of 2022’s members and volunteers are invited to attend a Volunteer Appreciation Picnic and Workday at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park on January 21

The event, put on by ‘“TREEmendous Miami,” will be held at the Cottages near the Orange Pavilion. The main food and drinks will be supplied. Guests are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Guests are also encouraged to bring frisbees, soccer balls, footballs, swimming attire, and whatever else will help them have a fun and memorable beach day – after putting in some work.

The work session – targeting eradication of Florida holly and other invasive exotics – will run from 1 to 3:15 p.m. and will help native trees be reestablished into a maritime hammock for native fauna and migratory birds. For the work portion of the day, wear long pants and shirt, closed shoes, and sun protection. Organizers will provide gloves, tools and drinking water. Meet near the cottages at 12:30 p.m..

At the Virginia Key Beach Park entrance station, tell the attendant you are there with TREEmendous Miami and you will not be charged an entrance fee.
